JAKARTA (Bisnis.com): Pemerintah diminta mendorong usaha kecil menengah (UKM) memanfaatkan Internet guna meningkatkan daya saing menghadapi perdagangan bebas Asia-China dan menaikkan branding.

Director Ethnography Consulting Amalia E. Maulana mengatakan segmentasi UKM harus segera disusun untuk mengukur kemampuan UKM dalam menerima teknologi Internet dalam mempromosikan produknya.

"Penggunaan Internet dalam UKM tidak harus berupa online transaction, tetapi juga bisa dalam hal pengenalan perusahaan, informasi, dan promosi. Setelah itu barulah memasuki tahap transaksi online," katanya hari ini.

Menurut dia terdapat puluhan juta UKM yang susah mendistribusikan produknya secara konvensional. Mereka, lanjutnya, bisa menggunakan Internet agar lebih murah dan lebih cepat.

Saat ini, UKM tengah bersiap menghadapi serbuan produk China. Bahkan bukan hanya produk asli asal China, melainkan juga melawan produk lokal yang menggunakan branding China, seperti Nexian, Tje fuk, dan lainnya.

Berdasarkan data Biro Pusat Statistik (BPS), di Indonesia terdapat sekitar 51,3 juta unit UKM, di mana hanya 1% saja yang lumayan besar. Meski omzetnya besar, lambaga Etnography menilai UKM tersebut tidak selalu memiliki pola pikir digital atau Internet sehingga perlu dibenahi.
